MOFCOM Spokesperson’s Remarks on UK Sanctions Against Chinese Enterprises

Q: On February 24, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the UK announced a new package of Russia-related sanctions, which involves multiple Chinese enterprises. What is China’s comment on this?

A: The UK side has repeatedly listed Chinese enterprises under the pretext of Russia-related issues. The UK’s actions constitute unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the United Nations. China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to such actions. On the Ukraine crisis, China consistently strictly controls the export of dual-use items in accordance with laws and regulations. Normal exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Russian enterprises should not be disrupted or affected. China urges the UK side to immediately correct its erroneous practices and lift the sanctions on the relevant Chinese entities to safeguard the positive momentum in the development of China-UK relations. China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
