Q: It is reported that the UK Minister of State for Energy recently issued a statement on the UK Parliament website, stating that the UK government cannot support the use of Ming Yang Smart Energy's wind turbines in the country’s offshore wind projects. What is China's comment?
A: We have noted the relevant statement from the UK side. The UK's exclusion of Chinese products from its wind projects on the grounds of "national security" runs counter to the "open and free" market principles it has long upheld. It is not conducive to the development of local economy and the improvement of people’s wellbeing in the UK, and will have a negative impact on pragmatic bilateral economic and trade cooperation. China firmly opposes this.
During his visit to China in January this year, Prime Minister Keir Starmer explicitly said that the UK is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields including trade, investment, finance, and environmental protection, to boost mutual economic growth and deliver benefits for people of both countries. China hopes the UK government will provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises, earnestly advance pragmatic cooperation in the economic and trade sectors between the two countries, and promote the healthy development of bilateral relations.
