MOFCOM Spokesperson’s Remarks on the EU’s Prohibition of Funding for Projects Using Chinese Inverters

Q: It is reported that some EU officials have stated that the EU will prohibit funding support for projects using inverters from “high-risk countries” such as China. What is China’s comment on this?

A: China has noted relevant reports. Without any concrete evidence, the EU has, for the first time, designated China as a so-called “high-risk country” and, on that basis, banned funding for projects using Chinese inverters. This constitutes stigmatization against China and imposes unfair and discriminatory treatment on Chinese products, which China firmly rejects and opposes.

The EU’s designation of China as a “high-risk country” will undermine mutual trust between China and the EU, damage bilateral economic and trade cooperation, threaten the stability of China-EU and even global industrial and supply chains, and increase the risk of decoupling. The EU’s forced exclusion of Chinese products violates market rules and the principles of fairness. Such actions will not only undermine the interests of Chinese enterprises but will also backfire, ultimately jeopardizing the EU’s green transition and energy security.

China urges the EU to immediately cease the stigmatization of China as a “high-risk country” and withdraw its unfair and discriminatory practices against Chinese products. China will closely follow and carefully assess the impact of EU policies on the interests of Chinese enterprises and on China-EU industrial and supply chains, and will take measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
