MOFCOM BJT
Q: On October 23, the U.S. Department of the Treasury released the new proposed rules on outbound investment restrictions for public comment. What is China’s comment?
A: China takes note of the relevant developments. The proposed rules broaden and tighten restrictions on U.S. investments in China in a discriminatory manner. This is a typical case of overstretching the concept of national security, which runs counter to the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, disrupts normal business cooperation between Chinese and U.S. companies, and harms the international economic and trade order. China expresses serious concern and firm opposition. We will closely monitor subsequent developments and reserve the right to take corresponding measures.
China has a supersized market with enormous consumption and investment potential. Investing in China means investing in the future. Restricting investment in China will not only damage China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation but also hurt the interests of U.S. companies themselves. China urges the U.S. side to respect market economy principles, stop overstretching the concept of national security, and stop politicizing and weaponizing economic and trade issues, so as to create a favorable environment for China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation.
