Q: It is learned that a WTO panel has issued a ruling in the case brought by China against the U.S. over the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), finding the U.S. measures at issue violate WTO rules. What is your comment on this?
A: The WTO circulated the panel report on the case brought by China against the U.S. over the IRA on January 30, 2026 in Geneva. The panel ruled that the U.S. clean energy subsidy measures at issue violate WTO rules, rejected Washington’s claim that the measures were on necessary public morals, and called on the U.S. to withdraw the subsidies. China welcomes and appreciates the panel’s objective and impartial ruling.
China has consistently been a firm defender of WTO rules and a steadfast supporter of the international economic and trade order. We hope the U.S. will respect the panel’s findings and WTO rules, promptly correct its wrongful practices, and take concrete actions to uphold the international economic and trade order and promote stable and orderly global trade.
