Q. On September 15, the WTO panel circulated its report on China’s challenge of US Section 301 tariff measures, ruling that the US tariff measures involved are inconsistent with its WTO obligations. What’s your comment?

A. China commends the objective and just ruling of the panel.

China brought the US’s wrong approaches of unilateralism and trade protectionism to the dispute settlement body of the WTO to safeguard China’s lawful rights and interests, which also demonstrates China’s resolve to respect WTO rules and uphold the authority of the multilateral trading system.

The multilateral trading system, centered around the World Trade Organization, is the cornerstone of international trade. China remains committed to supporting and protecting this system by respecting WTO rules and ruling. China also hopes that the US would give full respect to the panel decision and the rules-based multilateral trading system. It is hoped that the US would take real actions and pull in the same direction with China and the rest of the WTO membership to safeguard the multilateral trading system and pursue world economic development which is sound and stable.
