On the evening of November 3, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Australian Trade Minister Farrell in Shanghai during his work on the preparations for the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE). They had practical and constructive discussions on deepening China-Australian economic and trade relations and supporting Australian companies participating in the CIIE.
Wang Wentao pointed out that 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's visit to Australia and the establishment of China-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It is a general concensus among Australian businesses that sound and stable China-Australian relations are important for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Both sides should implement the important consensus reached by the leaders and address mutual economic and trade concerns on based on equality and mutual benefits, and translate the complementarity of the two economies into more practical cooperation outcomes.
Wang Wentao stated that a record-breaking number of Australian businesses are participating in the CIIE this year, demonstrating the enthusiasm and confidence ofAustralian business community in economic and trade cooperation with China. The Chinese economy maintains a positive momentum, which will create more business opportunities for Australian businesses. China hopes that Australia will continue to improve its business environment and treat Chinese companies in a fair and just manner.
Farrell noted that since last year, both sides have met several times and maintained close communication in economic and trade areas. This demonstrates that Australia attaches great importance to developing economic and trade relations with China. This year, a large mission of over 250 Australian businesses is participating in the CIIE. This shows that Australian businesses recognize the enormous opportunities in the Chinese market. Australia has confidence in Chinese economic development and is committed to long-term cooperation with China.
