MOFCOM BJT

Q: European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič said last Friday that the China-EU consensus on hybrid vehicle exports stemmed from China’s understanding of European public opinion. What is China’s response to this? (MOFCOM Regular Press Conference October 15, 2026)

A: I would like to emphasize that the understanding reached between the two sides in the field of hybrid vehicles is reciprocal and mutually beneficial, and is based on the three principles emphasized and confirmed by both sides under the framework of WTO rules, namely, compliance throughout the entire process, respect for facts, and non-discrimination. The relevant consensus has effectively safeguarded the practical interests of Chinese enterprises and avoided escalation of China-EU trade frictions. This fully demonstrates that China-EU consultations based on rules-based consensus can not only solve problems, but also deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and promote upward balancing and forward progress in China-EU trade.
