Q: The 138th Canton Fair is currently underway in Guangzhou. What outcomes has it achieved so far? And what will be featured in the upcoming third phase? (MOFCOM Regular Press Conference October 30, 2025)

A: As many of you have noticed, the 138th Canton Fair is currently being held in Guangzhou, attracting global buyers and generating significant online attention. Terms like “Vibrant Canton Fair,” “Warm Canton Fair,” and “Innovative Canton Fair” have been trending on social media. Based on on-site surveys and feedback from exhibitors and buyers, the fair has delivered results in four key areas:

First, innovation and vitality continue to shine. Guided by the spirit of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, MOFCOM has actively identified adapted to, and steered changes and driven the Canton Fair to improve transaction facilitation, management, services, and functions. The fair is steadily becoming smarter, greener, and more innovative, better serving high-quality development. In the first two phases, the exhibit mix has been continuously optimized: new products, green and low-carbon products, and products with independent intellectual property accounted for 22.1%, 25.9%, and 25.1% of the total, respectively.

Second, international participation remains robust. To date, nearly 240,000 overseas buyers from 223 countries and regions have attended—an increase of 6.8% compared to the last session. A total of 140 overseas chambers of commerce and business associations have organized delegations, up by 9.3%. Notably, buyer attendance from the European Union, the Middle East, the United States, and South America have grown significantly. This strong global turnout is creating more business opportunities for all participants.

Third, digital and intelligent technologies are providing strong support. Over 8,200 high-tech, specialized and sophisticated, and single-champion enterprises are exhibiting. Products such as embodied intelligence, 6G communications, and green smart home solutions have drawn widespread attention. The fair has hosted 472 new product launches, six “Trade Bridge” supplier-buyer matchmaking sessions, and two rounds of activities to help quality export products expand into the domestic market—creating new scenarios for the debut economy and integration of domestic and foreign trade, and helping enterprises precisely target markets.

Fourth, thoughtful services are being continuously enhanced. This year, the Canton Fair continues to waive 50% of booth fees for export exhibitors and fully waives fees for exhibitors in zones supporting rural revitalization. For the first time, the fair has introduced on-site tax refund services for departing foreign visitors, booth-level navigation, mobile app-based registration, AI-assisted booth design review, and pilot modular booth construction—delivering a benchmark service experience that has received broad acclaim.

Tomorrow, the third phase of the Canton Fair will open as scheduled, focusing on the theme of “Better Living.” It will showcase premium products in fashion apparel, home textiles, health and leisure, and will feature—for the first time—a dedicated Smart Healthcare Zone. We believe this phase will bring even more innovation and surprises, attracting even more global buyers. We welcome continued media coverage and public attention.
