Efforts Made to Increase Imports of Copper Raw Material in the First Half of the Year Wednesday,September 03,2003 Posted: 08:47 BJT(0047 GMT) Due to short supply of copper raw material and planned increase in production , efforts are made to increase imports. In the first half of the year, import of copper concentrate and scraped copper amounted to 59.59% and 51.41% of the total import in 2002. Import volume by ordinary trade reached 84.83million tons in half a year, up by 25.26%; Imports by border trade reached 26.81million tons, up by 72.10%. Exports were 4.94million tons. Because of the short supply at home, imports and exports of copper keeps dropping in the first half of the year, by 43.13% to 2.88million tons, accounting for 69.57% of the total import. South Africa export to China were 9009 ton, down by 34.55%, Peru 7287 tons, up by 52.44%), Namibia 5773 tons, down by 3.08%, and Ukraine 4530 tons, down by 72.39%.
