Statistics of Mainland-Taiwan Trade and Investment in January-October 2016

I. Mainland-Taiwan Trade

Mainland-Taiwan trade in October 2016 amounted to US$ 15.95 billion, up 2.7% year on year, and down2.3% month on month. The mainland’s export to Taiwan was US$ 3.43 billion, down 3.7% year on year, and up5.2% month on month; the mainland’s import from Taiwan was US$ 12.52 billion, up 6.7% year on year, and down 4.2% month on month.

Mainland-Taiwan trade in January-October 2016 amounted to US$ 143.5 billion, down 6.1% year on year, accounting for 4.8% of the total volume of the mainland’s external trade. The mainland’s export to Taiwan was US$ 32.57 billion, down 12.6% year on year, and the mainland’s import from Taiwan was US$ 110.93 billion, down 4% year on year. Taiwan is the mainland’s 7th largest trade partner and 6th largest source of imports.

II. Investment from Taiwan

In October 2016, a total of 141 Taiwan-invested projects were approved in the mainland, down 56.5% month on month, and the actually utilized Taiwan capital was US$ 1.43 billion, up 2317.2% month on month.

In January-October 2016, a total of 2,857 Taiwan-invested projects were approved in the mainland, up 24.9% year on year, and the actually utilized Taiwan capital was US$ 2.98 billion, up 28.4% year on year. (The actually utilized Taiwan capital would be US$ 2.98 billion if including the investment via the third country or region through free ports like British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Samoa, Mauritius and Barbados.)

By the end of October 2016, as many as 98,155 Taiwan-invested projects were approved in the mainland, and the actually utilized Taiwan capital was US$ 64.32 billion, accounting for 3.7% of the total utilized investment of the mainland from overseas.
