Romania’s Trade-in-Services Statistics, January-May, 2020

Preliminary statistics from the National Bank of Romania (BNR) show that from January to May, 2020, Romania’s total trade in services was €15.48 billion, down 11.2% year-on-year. The export was €9.6 billion, decreasing by 7.6%, and the export was €5.88 billion, decreasing by 16.6%. Trade surplus reached €37.2 billion, up 11.3%.

Sectors with the highest trade volumes include:

1. Transport

From January to May, 2020, Romania’s total trade in transport was €3.95 billion, down 11.2% year-on-year and accounting for 25.5% of the total trade. The export was €2.8 billion, decreasing by 12.4%, and the import was €1.15 billion, decreasing by 16.6%.

By modes of transport, road transport ranked top, with a volume of €2.86 billion, accounting for 72.4% of the total trade of transport. Air transport ranked second, with a volume of €0.39 billion, accounting for 9.8%.

2. Other business services

From January to May, 2020, Romania’s total trade in other business services was €4.03 billion, down 2.7% year-on-year and accounting for 39.6% of the total trade volume. The export was €1.02 billion, decreasing by 12.4%, and the import was €0.58 billion, decreasing by 16.6%.

Specifically, the import of technical, trade-related, and other business services was €2.17 billion, up 5.8% year-on-year and accounting for 53.7% of the total trade of other business services.

The total trade of professional and management consulting services was €1.6 billion, up 3% year-on-year and accounting for 39.6% of the trade volume of other business services.

3. Telecommunications, computer, and information services

From January to May, 2020, Romania’s total trade in telecommunications, computer, and information services was €3.53 billion, up 15% year-on-year and accounting for 22.8% of the total trade. The export was €2.48 billion, growing by 17.2%, and the import was €1.05 billion, growing by 10%.

4. Travel

From January to May, 2020, Romania’s total trade in travel was €1.73 billion, down 4.2% year-on-year and accounting for 11.2% of the total trade. The export was €0.53 billion, decreasing by 48.8%, and the import was €1.2 billion, decreasing by 38.5%,

5. Processing trade

From January to May, 2020, Romania’s total trade in travel was €1.73 billion, down 4.2% year-on-year and accounting for 11.2% of the total trade. The export was €0.95 billion, decreasing by 23.4%, and the import was €0.07 billion, growing by 7.6%.

Besides, The total trade in charges for the use of intellectual property n.i.e. was €0.32 billion, down 12.2%; The total trade in maintenance and repair services n.i.e. was €0.25 billion, down 8.8%; The total trade in construction was €0.17 billion, down 33.5%; The total trade in financial services was €0.2 billion, up 4.6%; and the total trade in insurance and pension services was €0.12 billion, down 18.7%. The total trade in personal, cultural and recreational services and government goods and services n.i.e was low.
