Report on Import & Export of Trade in Services of Romania in January-November 2019

The preliminary statistics released by BNR show that in January-November 2019, the total volume of import and export of Romania’s trade in services was 40.21 billion euros, up 13.5% year on year. Of the total amount, the export volume was 24.02 billion euros, up 11.4% year on year, and the import volume was 16.19 billion euros, up 16.8% year on year. The surplus of service trade was 7.83 billion euros, up 1.7% year on year.

In terms of sectors, the following sectors recorded comparatively high volume of import and export of service trade.

1. Transportation Services

In January-November 2019, the volume of the import and export of transportation services reached 10.42 billion euros, up 15.2% year on year, accounting for 25.9% of the total service trade volume. Of the total amount, the export volume was 7.22 billion euros, with an increase of 13.6% year on year, and the import volume was 3.21 billion euros, with an increase of 19% year on year.

In terms of transportation mode, road transportation services took up the biggest proportion, with import and export volume being 6.99 billion euros, accounting for 67.1% of the total trade volume of transportation services, followed by air transportation service, with a trade volume of 2.01 billion euros, taking up 19.2%.

2. Other Business Services

In January-November 2019, the import and export volume of other business services was 9.24 billion euros, with an increase of 18.3% year on year, accounting for 23% of the total service trade volume. Of the total amount, the export volume was 4.99 billion euros, with an increase of 14.9% year on year, and the import volume was 4.25 billion euros, with an increase of 22.6% year on year.

More specifically, the import and export volume of technology, trade-related and other business services was 4.89 billion euros, with an increase of 18.8% year on year; the export volume was 2.54 billion euros, with an increase of 16.9% year on year; the import volume was 2.35 billion euros, with an increase of 21% year on year.

The import and export volume of professional and managerial advisory services was 3.49 billion euros, with an increase of 11.4% year on year; the export volume was 2.18 billion euros, with an increase of 13.2% year on year; and the import volume was 1.31 billion euros, with an increase of 8.4% year on year.

3. Telecommunication, Computers and Information Services

In January-November 2019, the import and export volume of telecommunication, computers and information services was 7.07 billion euros, with an increase of 14.9% year on year, accounting for 17.6% of the total service trade volume. Of the total amount, the export volume was 4.91 billion euros, with an increase of 14% year on year, and the import volume was 2.17 billion euros, with an increase of 17% year on year.

4. Tourism Services

In January-November 2019, the import and export volume of trade in tourism services was 7.68 billion euros, with an increase of 13.3% year on year, accounting for 19.1% of the total service trade volume. Of the total amount, the export volume was 2.82 billion euros, with an increase of 6.9% year on year, and the import volume was 4.85 billion euros, with an increase of 17.4% year on year.

5. Processing Trade

In January-November 2019, the import and export volume of processing trade was 2.85 billion euros, with a decrease of 0.6% year on year, accounting for 7.1% of the total service trade volume. Of the total amount, the export volume was 2.71 billion euros, with an increase of 0.4% year on year, and the import volume was 140 million euros, with a decrease of 17.1% year on year.

Besides, the import and export volume of intellectual property royalties was 820 million euros, with an increase of 3% year on year, accounting for 2% of the total volume of service trade. The import and export volume of maintenance services was 610 million euros, with an increase of 3.4% year on year, accounting for 1.5% of the total volume of service trade. The import and export volume of construction services was 540 million euros, with an increase of 9.4% year on year, accounting for 1.3% of the total volume of service trade. The import and export volume of financial services was 460 million euros, with a decrease of 6.7% year on year, accounting for 1.1% of the total volume of service trade. The import and export volume of insurance and pension services was 270 million euros, with an increase of 27% year on year, accounting for 0.7% of the total volume of service trade. The volume of import and export of human resources, culture, entertainment and government services was less significant.
