Report on Import & Export of Romania's Trade in Goods in January-November 2019

The preliminary statistics released by INS show that in January-November 2019, the total volume of import and export of Romania’s trade in goods was 143.87 billion euros, and increased by 3% year on year. Of the total amount, the FOB export volume was 64.18 billion euros, and increased by 1.7% year on year, and the CIF import volume was 79.69 billion euros, and increased by 4.1% year on year.

In November, the FOB export volume of Romania was 6.0 billion euros, and increased by 1% year on year, and the CIF import volume was 7.49 billion euros, and dropped by 0.1% year on year.

I. Trade within the EU

In January-November 2019, the volume of Romania’s trade in goods with other EU countries was 108.92 billion euros, and increased by 2.9% year on year, taking up 75.7% of Romania’s total import and export over the same period of time. Of the total amount, the export volume was 49.34 billion euros, and increased by 1.6% year on year, accounting for 76.9% of the total export over the same period of time. The import volume was 59.58 billion euros, and increased by 4.1% year on year, accounting for 74.8% of the total import over the same period of time.

II. Trade outside the EU

In January-November 2019, Romania’s trade volume with countries outside the EU was 34.95 billion euros, and increased by 3.3% year on year, taking up 24.3% of Romania’s total import and export over the same period of time. Of the total amount, the export volume was 14.84 billion euros, and increased by 2% year on year, accounting for 23.1% of the total export over the same period of time. The import volume was 20.11 billion euros, and increased by 4.2% year on year, accounting for 25.2% of the total import over the same period of time.

III. Trade deficits

In January-November 2019, the FOB value of exports was offset by the CIF value of imports. Romania’s trade deficit was 15.51 billion euros, and increased by 15.7% year on year. Of the total amount, the trade deficit within the EU was 10.24 billion euros, and increased by 18.3% year on year. The trade deficit outside the EU was 5.27 billion euros, and increased by 11.1% year on year.

In November, Romania’s trade deficit was 1.49 billion euros, and dropped by 4.6% year on year.

IV. Trade structure

In terms of trade structure, in January-November 2019, Romania’s imports and exports mainly fell into the categories of machinery and transportation equipment (accounting for 47.2% of the total export and 37.3% of the total import respectively over the same period of time) and other processing products (taking up 31.8% of the total export and 30.5% of the total import respectively over the same period of time).
