Statistics on China-Africa Trade in January-November, 2018

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in January-November, China’s total import and export volume with Africa was US$186.20 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.3%, exceeding the overall growth rate of foreign trade in the same period by 5.5 percentage points. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$95.58 billion, up 11.8% and China’s imports from Africa were US$90.62 billion, up 30.6%; the surplus was US$4.96 billion, down 69.2% year on year.

In November, China’s total imports and exports with Africa were US$17.80 billion, up 16.9% year on year and 2.1% month on month. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$9.27 billion, up 12.7% year on year and 5.6% month on month; China’s imports from Africa were US$8.53 billion, up 19.1% year on year and down 1.5% month on month; the trade surplus was US$740 million, down 30.4% year on year and up 516.7% month on month.

In January-November, the growth rate of China’s trade with Africa was only 0.2 percentage points lower than that with Latin America. The import growth rate continued to be the highest in the world, 12.2 percentage points higher than the import growth rate of foreign trade in the same period.
