According to the statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in January-August, China’s total import and export volume with Africa was US$134.15 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.4%, exceeding the overall growth rate of foreign trade in the same period by 4.3 percentage points. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$68.54 billion , up 10.0% and China’s imports from Africa were US$65.62 billion, up 33.4%; the surplus was US$2.92 billion, down 77.7% year on year.

In August, China’s total imports and exports with Africa were US$17.88 billion, increasing by 31.9% year-on-year and rising by 4.0% month-on-month. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$9.19 billion, up 18.7% year on year and 2.2% month on month; China’s imports from Africa were US$8.69 billion, up 46.8% year on year and 6.0% month on month; the trade surplus was US$490 million, down 73.0% year on year.

In January-August, the growth rate of China’s foreign trade with Africa was the highest in the world. In particular, the import growth rate was 10.8 percentage points higher than that of Latin America, the second highest in the world and was 12.5 percentage points higher than the import growth rate of foreign trade in the same period.
