Statistics on China-Africa Trade in January-September, 2018

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in January-September, China’s total import and export volume with Africa was US$151.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.0%, exceeding the overall growth rate of foreign trade in the same period by 4.3 percentage points. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$77.63 billion , up 11.2% and China’s imports from Africa were US$73.38 billion, up 30.9%; the surplus was US$4.25 billion, down 69.1% year on year.

In September, China’s total imports and exports with Africa were US$17.01 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.9% and a month-on-month decrease of 4.9%. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$9.22 billion, up 22.8% year on year and 0.3% month on month; China’s imports from Africa were US$7.79 billion, up 13.3% year on year and down 10.4% month on month; the trade surplus was US$1.43 billion, up 124.4% year on year.

In January-September, the growth rate of China’s foreign trade with Africa was the highest in the world. In particular, the import growth rate was 7.9 percentage points higher than that of Latin America, the second highest in the world and was 10.9 percentage points higher than the import growth rate of foreign trade in the same period.
