Briefings on Japan’s Trade in November, 2018

According to the statistics from the Japanese customs, in January-November 2018, the import and export volume of Japanese goods reached US$1360.88 billion, up 9.4% over the same period of the previous year (the same below). Among these, the exports were US$675.61 billion, up 6.6%; the imports were US$685.26 billion, up 12.2%. The trade deficit was US$9.65 billion, down 141.8%.

In November, the import and export of Japanese goods reached US$128.76 billion, up 5.8%. Among these, the exports were US$61.13 billion, down 0.3%; the imports were US$67.64 billion, up 12.0%. The trade deficit was US$6.51 billion.

In January-November, the bilateral import and export volume of goods between Japan and China was US$290.79 billion, up 8.1%. Among these, Japan’s exports to China were US$131.50 billion, up 10.0%, accounting for 19.5% of Japan’s total exports, up 0.6 percentage points; Japan’s imports from China were US$159.30 billion, up 6.6%, accounting for 23.3% of Japan’s total imports, down 1.2 percentage points. The trade deficit between Japan and China was US$27.80 billion, down 7.2%.

By November, China had been Japan's largest export trade partner and the largest import trade partner.
