Briefings on Japan’s Trade in June, 2018

According to statistics from Japan customs, in January-June 2018, the import and export volume of Japanese goods reached US$ 733.03 billion, up 10.4% over the same period of the previous year (the same below). Among these, the exports were US$369.48 billion, up 9.8%; the imports were US$363.56 billion, up 11.1%. The trade surplus was US$5.92 billion, down 36.2%.

In June, the import and export of Japanese goods reached US$121.62 billion, up 5.5%. Among these, the exports were US$64.08 billion, up 7.6%; the imports were US$57.53 billion, up 3.3%. The trade surplus was US$6.55 billion.

In January-June, the bilateral import and export volume of goods between Japan and China was US$121.62 billion, up 5.5%. Among these, Japan’s exports to China were US$64.08 billion, up 7.6%, accounting for 19.1% of Japan’s total exports, up 0.7 percentage points; Japan’s imports from China were US$83.33 billion, up 6.1%, accounting for 22.9% of Japan’s total imports, down 1.1 percentage points. The trade deficit between Japan and China was US$12.86 billion, down 22.9%.

By June, China is Japan’s largest export trade partner and largest import trade partner.
