China's Investment Cooperation with BRI Participating Countries from January to March of 2022

From January to March 2022, the non-financial direct investment of Chinese companies in BRI participating countries reached RMB33.4 billion, growing by 16.5% year-on-year (USD5.26 billion, up 19%). This sum accounted for 19.5% of their total outbound investment over the same period, up 1.7 percentage points from the previous year. Major investment destinations include Singapore, Pakistan, Indonesia, the UAE, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Saudi Arabia.

In terms of international construction contracting, China signed 959 new construction contracts with BRI participating countries. Their worth, RMB156.47 billion, decreased by 23% (USD24.64 billion, down 21.4%) year-on-year, accounting for 52.0% of the total of China’s new international construction contracts of the same period. The value of performed work was RMB101.42 billion, down 11.9% (USD15.97 billion, down 10.0%) year-on-year and accounting for 55.1% of China’s total amount over the same period.
