On July 17th, Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with Yasuhiro Sato, chairman of Japan China Investment Promotion Organization (JCIPO) and co-chaired a roundtable with Japanese firms in China to hear from them about their operation, suggestions, and concerns. Minister Wang responded to the concerns raised by business leaders from Mizuho Bank, Panasonic, Toyota, Hitachi, and YKK. Vice Minister Li Fei and Assistant Minister Chen Chunjiang also joined meeting.
Wang Wentao spoke highly of the contributions of JCIPO to promoting investment in China and advancing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. He noted that opening-up is a fundamental policy of China. China will not close its door, but open only wider. He hoped that the JCIPO will continue to play its role as a bridge and bond in bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Wang Wentao emphasized that China is pursuing a Chinese path to modernization and moving faster to build a new development paradigm. With over 1.4 billion people, China’s modernization drive will create strong impetus for global development, and broad market space and cooperation opportunities for businesses across the world, including from Japan. MOFCOM will give full play to the role of FIE roundtables to regularly exchange views with foreign-invested enterprises, chambers of commerce, and business associations, hear their voices, and respond to their concerns. MOFCOM will work to improve the business environment, create more conditions, and provide better services to FIEs.
Yasuhiro Sato said that as the world’s second largest economy, China is an important overseas market for Japanese businesses. The majority of JCIPO members are interested in increasing and sustaining investment in China. The JCPIO will continue to contribute to reinforcing the economic links between Japan and China. He also hoped that China will continue to enhance communication with FIEs, chambers of commerce, and business associations to hear from them and help them address problems and difficulties.
