The G20 Development Ministerial Meeting held in Indonesia

On September 8, the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting was held in Indonesia, focusing on post-pandemic economic recovery, upholding multilateralism, SMEs, climate change, blended finance and other topics. Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce attended the meeting via video link, joined by Wang Shouwen, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce.

Wang Wentao said that since the outbreak of the pandemic, global economic recovery has faced significant headwinds, and development gap between the North and South widened, posing a severe challenge to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Therefore, hosting the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting is highly relevant against this backdrop. In the face of risks and challenges, China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with G20 members in four areas. First, putting development first. China will push forward the Global Development Initiative and move faster with the UN 2030 Agenda. Second, pushing for innovation-driven development. China will strengthen cooperation on digital economy and other emerging areas, bridge the digital divide, and help fellow developing countries to seize development opportunities in the post-Covid era. Third, achieving green development. China will step up support for sustainable development of fellow developing countries. Fourth, mobilizing development resources. China will continue to conduct constructive discussions on such issues as financing tools for innovation-driven development.

China always stands for developing countries and firmly protects the interests of developing countries on the front of global response to the pandemic and aid for trade. China welcomes joint efforts by all parties to address challenges, uphold true multilateralism and help developing countries achieve the goal of sustainable development.

The G20 Development Ministerial Meeting was chaired by Suharso Monoarfa, Minister for National Development Planning of Indonesia, the Presidency of G20 this year, and attended by representatives from G20 members, guest countries and international organizations. This is the second session of the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting. The inaugural session was held in Italy in 2021.
