China-Uzbekistan Investment Cooperation Forum was successfully held

MOFCOM and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan jointly held China-Uzbekistan investment cooperation forum on 25 March. Wang Wentao, Chinese Commerce Minister, and Umurzakov, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, addressed the opening ceremony virtually.

Wang Wentao pointed out that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Mirziyoyev, China and Uzbekistan have maintained sound momentum in trade and economic cooperation, with enhanced cooperation mechanism, expanded trade volume, and steady progress in investment cooperation. A number of important projects have been implemented, contributing to the industrial upgrading and people’s livelihoods in Uzbekistan. This forum is a concrete step to act on the important common understanding of the two Presidents, and a meaningful way to promote investment cooperation. As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties, China stands ready to work with Uzbekistan to implement the important understandings of the two leaders, give better play to the role of the bilateral investment working group and the cloud platform for China-Uzbekistan investment cooperation, enhance policy coordination and project matching, enrich financing modes, expand areas of cooperation, especially on digital economy and green development, so as to create conditions for commercial and industrial cooperation between the two countries, and make bilateral trade and economic cooperation more fruitful.

Umurzakov said that under the guidance of the two Presidents, the bilateral cooperation has been elevated to comprehensive strategic partnership. In recent years, bilateral trade has been growing steadily, and China has become a main source of investment for Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is fully committed to cooperation with China, and will continue to improve the investment environment, create new opportunities and favorable conditions to attract more Chinese businesses to Uzbekistan for investment. The two sides will fully utilize the role of bilateral investment cooperation, jointly develop the cloud platform for China-Uzbekistan investment, and take practical bilateral cooperation to a new level.

The forum was attended by over a thousand participants joining online and offline from the government, financial institutions, industrial associations, and the business community. Representatives from the two sides had in-depth discussions on digital economy, new infrastructure, and health care, etc.
