China and Five Pacific Island Countries Including Samoa Sign 10 Memorandums of Understanding to Strengthen Infrastructure, Investment and Capacity Cooperation

On October 19-20, during the 3rd China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum in Samoa, witnessed by Vice Premier Hu Chunhua and state heads and delegations of the five island countries with which China has established diplomatic relations, including Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Micronesia and Fiji, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Wang Shouwen and the representatives of the governments of the island countries mentioned above signed 10 memorandums of understanding on strengthening the cooperation in the field of infrastructure, investment and production capacity between Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the counterparts of the five governments of the 5 island countries.

China and Pacific island countries have strong complementary investment and capacity cooperation, and the cooperation in infrastructure has great potential and broad prospects. According to the signed memorandums, China will establish investment and capacity cooperation and infrastructure cooperation mechanisms with five island countries, including Samoa. The two sides will encourage companies from both countries to deepen cooperation in infrastructure such as roads, ports and airports. Investment and capacity cooperation in key areas such as fisheries and tourism will be strengthened to push bilateral economic and trade cooperation to a higher level, and achieve mutual benefit and common development.
