Approved by the State Council, on the afternoon of December 12, 2018, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Fu Ziying and Macao Secretary for the Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac held the first meeting of the Mainland and Macao Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee in Macao.

At the meeting, Fu Ziying and Leong Vai Tac jointly announced the establishment of the Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee, studied and confirmed the meeting mechanism such as the Work System of the Mainland and Macao Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee, exchanged views on important cooperation events such as promoting the upgrading and implementation of the CEPA, jointly promoting the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, supporting Macao's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, supporting the construction of Macao China-Portugal platform and strengthening economic and trade exchanges between the two sides, and formed 19 mutually beneficial cooperation policies and moves, which will further enhance the level of economic and trade cooperation between the mainland and Macao and benefit the two sides.

To implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and the spirit of the 19th Communist Party of China National Congress, support Macao's integration into the overall national development and comprehensively promote the mutually beneficial cooperation between the mainland and Macao, according to the new needs of economic and trade exchanges and cooperation development between the mainland and Macao, the mainland and the Macao SAR Government have optimized and upgraded the economic and trade cooperation mechanism and founded the Mainland-Macao Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee. The Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee has expanded the scope of cooperation between the two sides and enriched their cooperation contents and set up a responsible group for the cooperation between the two sides in the Belt and Road Initiative, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and China-Portugal platform, which will coordinate and solve major issues in the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. The convening of the first meeting of the Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee is of great significance in the economic and trade development of the two sides and signifies that the mainland and Macao will jointly promote economic and trade exchanges and cooperation to a higher level.
