Wang Yong Presides over the 6th China-Thailand Joint Committee on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation in Thailand

Bangkok, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- State Councilor Wang Yong and the Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak jointly presided over the 6th China-Thailand Joint Committee on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation in Thailand on August 24.

Wang Yong said that last year’s two meetings between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha pointed out a new direction for the development of the two countries’ relations. The two sides should take it as a guideline, earnestly implement the important consensus reached by their leaders, strengthen the alignment of development strategies under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries to a larger scale, broader field and higher level.

Prayut Chan-o-cha said that Thailand attaches great importance to deepening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and hopes to learn from China’s development experience, to strengthen the connection between “Eastern Economic Corridor” and the Belt and Road Initiative, to facilitate the Chinese enterprises’ investment in Thailand and to support Thai enterprises to actively participate in the first China International Import Expo.

The two sides agreed that the two countries should jointly oppose to unilateralism and trade protectionism and advance the liberalization and facilitation of trading and investment in the new situation. The two sides have conducted extensive and in-depth exchanges on synergizing economic development strategies and on strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, connectivity, agriculture, science and technology, aerospace, tourism and finance and have reached a number of achievements. After the meeting, the two sides signed the minutes of this meeting and several cooperation agreements.

During his stay in Thailand, Wang Yong also attended the 2018 China-Thailand Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum and inspected the construction of the “Eastern Economic Corridor” in Thailand.
