All sides should join efforts to uphold the multilateral trading system and safeguard the authority and efficiency of the WTO rules.

Wang Shouwen said the WTO meets various challenges at present, China is a positive supporter and active builder of the multilateral trading system. We would like to join efforts with all sides to ensure the smooth operation of the WTO functions and push ahead the negotiations of the leftover topics of the Doha Round like food safety and public reserve. We call upon discussions on new topics concerning investment facilitation and e-commerce under the multilateral framework and make the WTO play its part in global trade and economic governance.

Wang Shouwen stressed the section 232 and 301 investigations reflect the unilateral protectionism of the US. Resorting to trade restriction measures will not only impair the normal orders of international trade, but also undermine the multilateral trading system. There is no winner in a trade war but only negative impact on global trade and world economy. China will take positive measures to respond to the challenges and defend the rights and interests of our country and its industries.
