China and UNHCR Sign the Assistance Agreement to Meet Refugee Challenges

To fulfill President Xi Jinping’ commitment at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation of providing 1 billion dollars to the relevant international organizations to help meet the refugee challenges in Asian and African countries, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua, on behalf of the Chinese government, signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Chinese government will provide designated fund to the UNHCR based on the items of South-South cooperation assistance fund to provide humanitarian assistance to the refugees in Zimbabwe, Angola and Iraq. At present, the Ministry of Commerce and the UNHCR are promptly arranging the implementation of certain assistance projects to help the related countries deal with humanitarian crisis.
