The 1st Round of China-New Zealand FTA Upgrading Negotiations Held in Beijing

The 1st Round of China-New Zealand FTA Upgrading Negotiations was held in Beijing on April 25-27, 2017. The two sides held fruitful negotiations on issues concerning technical barriers to trade, customs procedures and trade facilitation, rules of origin, trade in service, competition policies, e-commerce, agricultural cooperation, environment and government procurement.

In May 2017, during Premier Li Keqiang’s official visit to New Zealand, leaders of both sides jointly announced to hold the first round of China-New Zealand FTA upgrading negotiations in Beijing in April. The China-New Zealand FTA is the first free trade agreement that China has signed with the developed countries. The upgrading negotiations are bound to inject strong vigor into bilateral trade and economic cooperation, benefit both business and people of the two sides and further consolidate the comprehensive and strategic China-New Zealand partnership.
