The 26th China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade to Be Held in Guangzhou on November 21-23

According to the agreement between China and the United States, the 26th China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade will be held in Guangzhou, China, on November 21-23. The Vice Premier of the Chinese State Council, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and the Trade Representative Michael Froman will jointly preside over the conference. The U.S. Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack will attend the conference.

The China-US Joint Commission on Commerce is one of the earliest established high-level dialogues between the governments of the two countries in trade and economic field. Since China and the United States held the first Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in May 1983, both sides have successfully held 25 Joint Commissions on Commerce and Trade, which played a significant role in expanding the bilateral win-win cooperation, remitting the trade and economic frictions and promoting the sound and stable development of the trade and economic partnership between China and the United States.

The 26th China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade will be the last high-level trade and economic dialogue between China and the United States within this year. At the conference, both sides will focus on implementing the trade and economic results reached by President Xi Jinping during his visit to the United States, exchange views on the significant trade and economic issues concerned by each side and discuss the method of expanding the win-win cooperation. Besides, both sides will also hold a series of cooperative activities such as the seminar, the entrepreneur roundtable, the public health forum themed on the trade and economic cooperation between the provinces and states of China and the United States during the period of this Joint Commission. China is looking forward to working with the United States to expand the common interests, enrich the trade and economic connotation of the new pattern of relationship between China and the United States and promote the bilateral trade and economic cooperation to a new stage by the platform of the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade.

The 25th China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade was successfully held in Chicago, the United State, on Dec 16-18, 2014. Both sides conducted profound discussion on the issues such as export control, intellectual property, innovation policy, bilateral investment, competition policy, medicine and medical equipments approval, service industry openness, agriculture and forestry products trade and aviation cooperation with consensus in many items and achievements.

At present, China and the United States are each other’s second biggest trade partner. According to the statistics of China, the bilateral trade volume in 2014 reached US$555.1 billion and the bilateral investment inventory exceeded US$140 billion.
