The US went its own way and imposed a 25% tariff on US$16 billion worth of Chinese imports under the Section 301 investigations on August 23, obviously suspected of violating the WTO rules. China resolutely opposes to that and has to take necessary countermeasures. Meanwhile, to safeguard the free trade and the multilateral trading system and to defend its own legitimate rights and interests, China will appeal to the WTO over the US tariff under the WTO dispute settlement mechanism.
