Official from the MOFCOM Department of Trade in Services and Commercial Services briefed China’s technology imports and exports in January 2018 on March 9.

Both imports and exports of technology in January soared. There were 1341 registered contracts of technology imports and exports with a contract value of 31.1 billion yuan. 642 of these contracts were imports contracts with a value of 17.6 billion yuan, up 22.3% year on year; 699 of them were exports contracts with a value of 13.5 billion yuan, up 24.6% year on year.

Regarding the mode of technology trade, the trade of technology in the forms of IPR license and transfer like patent technology, know-how and software copyright got increasingly active and grew rapidly. In January, the imports contract value of patent technology, know-how, trademark license and computer software registered 13.76 billion yuan, up 61.4% year on year, taking up 78.2% of the total value of technology imports. The export contract value amounted to 3.35 billion yuan, up 51.7% year on year, taking up 24.8% of the total value of technology exports.

Regarding markets of technology trade, Finland, Japan and the US are the three largest import sources with a value of 3.17 billion yuan, 3 billion yuan and 2.78 billion yuan respectively, taking up over 50% of the total value of technology imports. The US, HongKong and Finland are the three largest exports destinations with an export value of 2.87 billion yuan, 2.26 billion yuan and 1.49 billion yuan respectively , taking up nearly 50% of the total value of technology exports.

As to industry distribution, communication equipment, computer and other electronic equipment manufacturing is the largest industry for the imports and exports of technology. Specially, the imports contract value was 4.87 billion yuan, up 71.4% year on year, taking up 27.6% of the total value of technology imports; the exports contract value registered 2.88 billion yuan, up 67.7% year on year, taking up 21.3% of the total value of technology exports.
