MOFCOM Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau Wang Hejun Comments on the US’ Self-Initiation of Anti-dumping and Countervailing Investigations against the Common Alloy Aluminum Sheet from China

On November 28 in Washington, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced to self-initiate anti-dumping and countervailing investigations against the common alloy aluminum sheet from China. Head of MOFCOM Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau Wang Hejun made a statement on this.

Wang said that the anti-dumping and countervailing investigations against the imports of common alloy aluminum sheet from China were self-initiated by the government offices, rather than coming from the application of the domestic industries. This is the first trade remedy investigation self-initiated by the U.S. Department of Commerce in twenty-five years, which is also rare in international trade history. China expresses strong dissatisfaction with the US’ trade protection tendency.

Wang pointed out that the aluminum industries of China and the US are complementary to each other, and the trade in aluminum products between China and the US is mutual. Factitiously obstructing the regular order of the bilateral trade in aluminum products will damage the interests of both China and the US.

Wang stressed that the leaders of China and the US had just reached the consensus of striving for the mutually beneficial and win-win China-US trade and economic cooperation. It is hoped that the US can work towards the same direction with China according to the consensus and jointly promote the healthy and stable development of the China-US trade and economic development. At the same time, China will take necessary moves to safeguard the legitimate interests of Chinese enterprises.
