Director of MOFCOM Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau Wang Hejun Comments on the Anti-dumping and Countervailing Measures Prolonged by the EU against Chinese Photovoltaic Products

On March 1, the European Commission announced to prolong the implementation of anti-dumping and countervailing measures against Chinese photovoltaic products for 18 months, and actively launched the interim review investigation to gradually reduce the level of measures at the same time. Director of MOFCOM Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau Wang Hejun made a statement on this.

Wang said that Chinese noticed that the European commission shortened the prolonged measures from 24 months to 18 months, and would gradually slow down and even cancel the measures finally. Unfortunately, the European Commission still decided to continue to prolong this measure regardless of the opposition of many members and industries within the EU and Chinese industries.

Wang pointed out that the commitment of photovoltaic products is the example of successfully solving trade frictions by negotiation between China and the EU. With the joint efforts of the two sides, the price commitment runs smoothly and effectively balances the bilateral interests. It is hoped that the European Commission can properly deal with the consequent matters with practical actions, thoroughly terminate the anti-dumping and countervailing measures of photovoltaic products as soon as possible, avoid setting barrier for the recovery of normal international trade of photovoltaic products and avoid causing negative impact on the development of China-EU trade and economic relations.

Wang emphasized that at present, the world trade is facing more risks and uncertain factors. China and the EU should strengthen cooperation and jointly respond to challenges as strategic cooperative partners and important trade partners. Deepening cooperation between the two sides can not only benefit the peoples of the two countries, but also make positive contribution to the development of the world economy. China is willing to develop the China-EU relations based on the mutual respect and win-win cooperation with the EU, join hands to oppose trade protectionism and jointly create favorable environment for the economic globalization.
