![]() ![]() ![]() On the morning of December 11, the Party Literature Research Centre of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC sponsored the discussions on "Breaking Through --- In the Years When China Just Opened Up" and reform and opening-up in the Great Hall of People. Zhou Tienong, the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Abdulaidi Amudurexiti, the deputy chairman of the National Committee of CPPCC, attended the symposium. “Break Through: In the Years When China Just Opened Up” is an important composition written by Li Lanqing to memorialize the 30 years of reform and opening-up. Comrade Jiang Zemin wrote the following inscription for the book: “Reform and opening-up was an important turning point in the history of China's development. We must continue on with courage along this road carved out by Comrade Deng Xiaoping for the Chinese Nation.” In the book, Comrade Li Lanqing uses a lot of document materials and historical photographs, reviews the important events in the early period of the opening-up and the historical backgrounds of many major decisions concerning the opening-up, and classifies and sums up many important practical and theoretical issues. The book reflects the period beginning in the end of the 1970s and ending in the middle of 1980s, when the Party’s second generation of central collective leadership's core was Comrade Deng Xiaoping. The whole party and the people of China emancipated their minds, broke the institutional barriers and implemented reform and opening-up. The book strikes a responsive chord in the hearts of its readers and has been praised highly by various circles of society in the month after its publication. During the symposium, while discussing the publication of “Break Through: In the Years when China Just Opened Up” in connection with the theories and practices of the Reform and Opening-Up, Leng Rong, the director of the Party Literature Research Centre of the CPC Central Committee, Cheng Deming, the minister of the Ministry of Commerce, Jiang Xiaojuan, the deputy director of the Research Office of the State Council, Li Zhongjie, the deputy director of the Party History Research Centre of the Central Committee of the CPC, Liu Shanzai, the former Ministry of Foreign Economics and Trade, Zou Erjun, the former chairman of the Fujian Province Political Consultation Conference, and Wu Shuqing, the board chairman of the Beijing Aviation Food Company reviewed the remarkable and arduous history of the venture and highly spoke the significant meaning of the book to the 30th anniversary of reform and opening-up. All the participants of the symposium thought the publication of this book would play a very important role for cadres and the masses to understand the history of reform and opening-up, cherish the great achievements of the policy even more, continue to emancipate their minds, hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of CPC Central Committee whose general sectary is Hu Jintao, implement the scientific outlook on development deeply, and continue to carry on the great undertaking of reform and opening-up confirmedly under the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the "Three Represents." The symposium was moderated by Yang Shengqun, who is the standing deputy director of the Party Literature Research Centre of the CPC Central Committee. Over 100 people including the leaders of relevant departments of the Central Government and state organs and representatives from every circle of Beijing and every coastal province and city, attended the symposium. |
