By Zhan Bian ![]() Yi Xiaozhun, vice minister of commerce, together with Wang Junwen, secretary-general of the ongoing China Import and Export Fair (CIEF) or Canton Fair, yesterday met the trading delegation from Comoros headed by Said Attoumani, minister of investment promotion. Warmly welcoming the African guests to the 102nd session of the fair, Vice-Minister Yi said there was still much room for economic and trade cooperation between China and Comoros. "Both China and Comoros are developing countries," Yi said. "Both countries should forge even closer cooperative ties on international political and economic issues." He said that the ongoing trade gala is a good platform for both sides to compare notes on economic and trade development. According to the Comoran minister, his trading delegation aims to purchase cement and engineering machines and has already signed some purchase contracts. "Comoros attaches great importance to friendship and economic and trade ties with China," Attoumani said, adding that both countries should fortify exchanges in culture and human resources. "We welcome China's enterprises to invest and partake in the economic development of Comoros and will offer more preferential policies and support to China-funded enterprises as much as the local laws allow." "China-made products are very popular in Comoros, and Comoros also is also rich in resources," the Comoran minister said. "We hope both countries will work closely to promote direct trade." Very few China-made products available in Comoros are directly imported from China at present. Comoros is a country comprising three main islands and numerous islets of the Comoro Islands in the Indian Ocean off Southeast Africa, between Mozambique and Madagascar. China was among the first few foreign countries to establish an embassy in Comoros. |
