A seminar on the Latest Technical Requirements of the Europe and the US on Toys was held on Saturday at the exhibition hall of the 104th Canton Fair. Related leaders from the Overseas Business Complaint Service Center for Chinese Enterprises and the Bureau of Fair Trade for Imports and Exports of the Ministry of Commerce, the two sponsors of the seminar, and some experts and representatives from toys enterprises attended the seminar. As it is known, the US and the European market are the traditional markets for Chinese toys, accounting for 80 percent of the China's exports of the category. However, since 2008, Chinese toys have been encountering "Quality Gate" problems in these two traditional export markets. During the past 52 weeks, the Chinese toys recalled by the CPSC of the US accounted for 98.41% of the total number of toys recalled by the commission. While, 42 weeks before 2008, the RAREX of the EU published 435 unsafe toys, 348 of which, or 80 percent were exported by China. Therefore, Chinese toys export has confronted the "cold winter". The seminar, attended by nearly 50 articipants, was held under such a ircumstance and aimed to better nderstand the technical requirements f the US and the Europe on toys. It also aimed to help the toy enterprises improve the quality of their products and promote the sound development of the Chinese toy industry. At the seminar, leaders from the two afore-mentioned organizations introduced the situation that the Chinese toy industry was facing and the legal treatment to deal with unfair trade barriers. Experts from BSI of the United Kingdom and Toy Industry Association of the US explained the latest regulation of the US and the EU on safety of toys, and gave their constructive suggestions on how to timely adjust production plans and win the toy markets of the US and the Europe. The representatives from the toy enterprises had positive evaluation on this seminar. They believed that the lack of understanding of the US and the Europe markets resulted in their inefficient counter-measures to the technical trade barriers. They would learn from the lesson and work hard to improve the quality of their products and safeguard the fame of the Chinese toy enterprises. |
