Scouring pads and sponges made by Wuxi Wanglvhong Textile Co Ltd have been in high demand at the Canton Fair, with more than $600,000 worth of orders being signed on April 24 and 25. Industry insiders said technical innovation helps the humble household products achieve great success on the market. As one of the biggest makers of wire wool and washing sponges in China, the company achieved production value of 57 million yuan in 2008, with export volume reaching $5 million. According to Zhang Xiaofeng, general manager of the company, innovation is not a term exclusive to big and hi-tech enterprises. "Small and traditional firms must also rely on technical innovation to keep on the fast track," said Zhang. For that purpose, Wanglvhong makes huge investment in research and development every year. It has established close cooperative ties with a few domestic universities, invited experts to resolve technical difficulties, and made good use of high-level technical platforms to develop and test new products. Zhang said the vision of the company is to become another 3M, which began as a scotch tape maker and is now a Fortune 500 company. |
