The Ningbo trade delegation has unveiled a series of new products at the 105th China Import and Export Fair — also known as the Canton Fair — to win a bigger market share. Ningbo Hillary Pans & Pots Co Ltd is among the group of innovators. Its new design for an otherwise ordinary pan has made it more convenient to use — its lid can be placed on the handle. In addition, new materials used on the bottom of the pan ensure it can be used on both gas and electric ovens. The innovation costs just 3 percent more to produce, yet brings higher profits for the kitchenware maker. Because of the high level of convenience, the company has been able to increase the pan's selling price by 30 percent. "Of the exhibits we presented at the fair, 40 percent are our new products," said Zhou Saifang, manager of the company, adding that many regular customers showed keen interest in the new lineup during the past two days. Xinhai Lighter Co Ltd also fired success with its innovated gadgets, including a new lighter that has become a star. With state-of-the-art technologies, the lighter can withstand 65 C temperatures and will not explode even after a fall of 2 meters. Compared with ordinary lighters, the new model can burn longer and safer — a full two minutes of fi re will not do damage to the lighter. "We have spent three years in research and development," said Liu Hebo, vice-president of the company. "Now the model has the same quality as the European lighters yet its price is just half." The new lighter, though priced higher than its Chinese peers, is selling fast. Different from some products that are suffering in the economic crisis, daily consumption items offered by the Ningbo delegation have increased sales because of a change in consumption habits overseas. "Due to the influence of the global meltdown, a growing number of US and European consumers tend to cook at home rather than go out for dinner, which has spurred kitchenware sales growth," said Wu Yuehua, an official of the wooden product operations of the Ningbo Bainian Electronics. Wu's opinion was echoed by a trade official with Ningbo Xiermei Kitchenware Co Ltd. The official said his company has seen an around 8 percent increase in export in the US and Europe, bringing new opportunities to the struggling company. |
