| 'Hometown of shoes' maintains brisk sales pace |

The city of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, known as the hometown of shoes in China, continued to attract widespread attention from domestic and foreign visitors during a grand promotion organized by the city's government yesterday. The event, held in the Central Square between Hall A and B, gathered all Wenzhou enterprises exhibiting their products during the ongoing 105th Session of Canton Fair. The city deserves the shoe title, as illustrated last month by 14 of local brands winning accolades as the nation's top genuine shoe brands, accounting for 41 percent of the total winners. Statistics show that a total of 98 shoe enterprises from Wenzhou have booked 251 booths at the fair this year. Xie Rongfang, secretary general of the Wenzhou Shoe and Leather Association, said the association published a special supplement for its shoe industries in a bid to showcase the city's famous products. Company executives from Wenzhou Dong yi Shoe Group said that its company makes high-end products and brought some 150 styles to the fair. Zheng Yujian, vice-general manager of Wenzhou Ji'erda Shoe Co, which displays some 400 styles of shoes, said his company is "striving to promote Nano-function airconditioned shoe this time". Despite the global economic downturn, shoe producers in Wenshou have witnessed a fast industry reshuffle with large-sized enterprise prevailing the market. Last year, 61 Wenzhou enterprises saw exports exceeding $10 million, among which exports of three firms surpassed $50 million. |
