The International Pavilion may have stolen the spotlight at the ongoing Canton Fair, but the export commodities section for domestic exhibitors is no less eye-catching.

A total of 7,685 domestic exhibitors are showing off their products at both the Pazhou and Liuhua complexes in the first phase of the fair, and another 6,745 will take over the venues in the second phase from April 25 to 30.

The number of domestic exhibitors represents an increase of 429 from the 100th session last October.

There are 31,053 stands in the export commodities section, over a total exhibition space of about 620,000 sqm in both phases. Export commodities featured at Pazhou Complex in the first phase primarily consist of industrial products, while textiles and garments, medicines and healthcare products are being exhibited in Liuhua Complex. In the second phase, consumer items will take pride of place in Pazhou Complex, while gift items will be on display in Liuhua Complex.

Of the domestic exhibitors, 7,898 or 54.7 percent are manufacturing enterprises while 4,841 or 33.55 percent are foreign trade firms.

Private-sector enterprises exhibiting their products number 5,989 or 41.5 percent, while 3,874 State-owned enterprises account for 26.85 percent and 2,755 foreign-funded firms constitute 19.09 percent of the total domestic participants.

According to Xu Bing, spokesperson of the fair, the fair organizing committee has continued the strategy to set up brand pavilions in both complexes for 809 reputed Chinese companies. The total number of such booths is 4,183 in both complexes in the two phases.

Xu said that the exhibitors entitled to booths in the brand pavilions are either the owners of the 190 most popular export commodity brands, which have gained the support and encouragement of the Ministry of Commerce, or those recommended by the 50 domestic trading delegations and permitted to participate by the Ministry of Commerce.

He attributed the presence of the large number of global buyers at the fair mainly to the organizing committee's previous efforts to promote the event, including commissioning commercials in 26 countries and regions, holding promotional campaigns in a dozen countries and regions, and sending invitations to over 288,000 professional buyers in 213 countries and regions.

He also mentioned the committee's efforts to improve services for overseas visitors as being one of the reasons for the high turnout. Some 14 multinationals from France, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Germany, Denmark and Mexico are present or will arrive for procurement opportunities in the two phases.
