Press Conference for the 4th China-ASEAN Expo Open in Beijing

Press conference for the 4th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (CABIS) was held in Beijing in Sep 14th morning by the State Council Information Office.
Vice Minister of Department of Commerce Gao Hucheng first introduced the remarkable progress made by establishment of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and the advancement of mutually beneficial cooperation. In his statement, bilateral economic and trade relations have entered a new stage crediting to rapid investment growth, smooth promotion of CAFTA, and continuous deepening of regional and sub-regional cooperation. Bilateral trade will be two years ahead of target to achieve 200 billion USD. Pan-Beibu Gulf Rim economic cooperation has become the new bright spot.
CAEXPO has been held three times and set a stage for strategic development of China-ASEAN bilateral partnership. It is an important channel for multi-level exchanges and conveys CAFTA opportunities to enterprises. Its platform function is to play greater role in “10+1” cooperation as CAFTA accelerates its buildup and bilateral cooperation deepens.
The Expo will further improve the mechanism of co-sponsorship and pragmatic cooperation in key areas, enhance trade and economic effectiveness to create more business opportunities, said he.
Vice chairman of Guangxi Autonomous Region Li Jingzao in the conference reported the 4th Expo and CABIS preparatory work. From this year on every expo would invite one or two ASEAN country as the thematic nation. Leader of the thematic country will lead a delegation for key promotion in the expo. Brunei Darussalam is the thematic nation for this year. ASEAN enterprise booths have reached 1116 with overall increasing and 1563 enterprises from China covered 2800 booths, with products ranging from engineering machinery, food processing and packaging machinery, electric power equipment and building material etc. Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam book whole pavilion for their state products exhibition.
He also mentioned the effectiveness on the Expo’s business investment when he introduced the customer-centered strategy and the theme cooperation focus in the 4th Expo. With harbor cooperation this year’s theme, China Ministry of Communication jointly organize China-ASEAN Port Development & Cooperation Forum. Cities of charm for the Expo are all port cities.
The theme of CABIS, the 4th time also this year, is innovation cooperation & upgrading of regional growth, he said. Two specialized forums: “Trade in service-new areas & new business opportunities”, “Deepen financial cooperation & facilitate investment” will be held during the summit, together with a series of activities and tribunes. Asia-Europe Summit SOM and Nanning International Folk Song Arts Festival are on the schedule.
There are 48 media over 70 reporters attending the conference, greatly outnumbered the previous conferences.
