Hardware Environment for Investment

Land: Hubei is surrounded on three sides by mountains with lower and flat central part. Mountain area occupies 50%, hills take up 24%, and plain and lake area accounts for 20% of the area of Hubei Province. Water area is about 1/10 of the whole province, known as “A Province of Thousand Lakes”. The province covers a land of 281 110 000 mu and the land use situation approximately constitutes a structure of “70% mountains, 10% waters and 20% cropland”.

Minerals: 136 types of minerals have been discovered in the province, and the reserves of 87 resources have been explored. Among the reserves of explored minerals, phosphor, rutile, wollastonite, garnet and rectories clay rank No. 1 in China. In the metal minerals, ferrous metals include iron, manganese, chrome, vanadium and titanium. Non-ferrous metals and rare metals cover copper, aluminum, and zinc, lead, and nickel, cobalt, and tungsten, mercury, gold and silver, among which copper resource is the main metal.

Water energy: sources of many rivers in the province are from edge mountains, making a shape of heart with torrent water and large water fall. The developable water energy installed capacity reaches over 33 080 000 KW. Besides branches of Yangtze River and Hanjiang River, small hydropower reserved amount that can be supplied for recent development accounts for more than 4 million KW. The total installed capacity of the Three Gorges Project under construction is 18.20 million KW and the annually generated power amount is 84.7 billion KWH.
