Gansu, situated at the geographical center of China, is one of the birthplaces of Chinese nation and Huaxia culture. The ancient Silk Road passes through the whole province and makes Gansu the important passageway for cultural exchange and trade between the East and the West, in history, Gansu has made great contributions for Chinese and Western exchanges in material culture and spirit culture. Gansu has vast land, complex terrain, diversified climate, abundant natural resources, distinctive agricultural environment, better industrial infrastructure, and stronger real technological strength, and preponderance in local talented persons. Since the reform and open policy is carried out in our country, Gansu, as the same of the whole country, has experienced an earth-shaking change in all respects, and has made great development in various aspects of economy, society, and culture. In the course of development, the pace of opening to the outside continuously speeded up and the connections between Gansu and the world became more and more close. An industrial system mainly consisted of the main parts of petroleum and chemical engineering, nonferrous metallurgy, mechanical and electronic industry, construction and building materials, food and medicine, and light industry and textile has been established. Gansu has become an important base of energy resources, raw materials, and petroleum and chemical machinery manufacture. Lanzhou Municipality has become the vital point of communication, post and communications, and the center of commerce and trade in the north-west of China. Under the big background of economic globalization, insisting and enlarging opening to the outside world is our basic policy in speeding up development. We warmly welcome friends throughout the world to come to Gansu to visit and make tour, to invest and run enterprises, to facilitate the exchange and cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit and both win-win, to recreate the brilliancy of the Silk Road.
