On June 4, Assistant Minister of Commerce Chen Jian, vice governor of Fujian Province Ye Shuangyu and Deputy Mayor of Xiamen Municipality Huang Ling attended the press conference of the 11th China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) in Beijing.

Mr. Chen Jian said that CIFIT is the only investment-promotion exhibition that has been authenticated by the UFI. With persistent efforts, CIFIT has become an international two-way investment-promotion event which aims at introducing foreign investment into China and encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest abroad. Over the past ten years, 100,000 overseas businessmen from 144 counties and regions have attended the CIFIT, and over 1000 overseas organizations (companies) from 70 countries and regions have set up booths while over 13,000 projects of “introducing FDI” and “going global” were signed successfully at the event.

Mr. Chen Jian stated that CIFIT plays an increasingly important role in carrying out China’s macro development strategy and opening-up policy. The 11th CIFIT will stick to the theme of “intruding FDI” and “going global”, and will provide a platform for Sino-foreign investment cooperation.

Mr. Chen Jian stated that in the last 28 years of reform and opening up, China has attained tremendous achievements in attracting foreign investment. By the end of 2006, China has approved establishment of 594,445 foreign-funded enterprises in total, and its actual used foreign investment reached 703.979 bn USD. From January-April, 2007, foreign investment in China continued a stable growth. Actual used foreign investment totaled 20.359 bn USD, a 10.17% increase over same period last year. Currently, over 450 companies out of the Global Top 500 from more than 190 countries and regions have invested in China; meanwhile, Chinese government has been striving hard to boost all-round development of Sino-foreign economic cooperation, which has gained great achievements. Statistics showed that during the first quarter of 2007, China’s non-financial direct investment overseas reached 4.27 bn USD, a 22.7% increase over same period last year. Newly-signed contracts valued at 11.39 bn USD, which went up by 38.1% quarter on quarter. By the 11th Five-Year Plan of MOFCOM, China’s direct investment overseas is estimated to exceed 60 bn USD between 2006 and 2010.

“Currently, preparatory work of CIFIT is going on smoothly. Organizations from Turkey, South Africa, Nigeria, Thailand, Italy, Belgium, Sweden and other countries (regions), as well as world famous companies have reserved booths for the upcoming event. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) and other international economic organizations, as well as over 100 investment-promotion organizations from 48 countries (regions) have made clear statement that they would send delegations to attend the big event.” Mr. Ye Shuangyu said.

The 11th China International Fair for Investment & Trade will be held in Xiamen from September 8-11.
