In the Overseas Chinese Businessmen Investment Promotion Fair held on the 8th, officials of the Ministry of Commerce expressed hope that overseas Chinese businessmen would invest in the old industrial bases of Central Western and North Eastern China to make contributions to the coordinated development of China’s economy. Assistant to Commercial Minister Wang Chao said, “Since China opened up to the outside world, its economy has boasted splendid achievements, in which the overseas Chinese businessmen have played an indispensable and critical role.” It is introduced that up to the end of 2006, China has approved the establishment of close to 600,000 foreign enterprises, attracting accumulatively actual foreign investment of 704 billion US dollars. From January to July this year, China’s actual utilization of foreign capital amounts to 36.9 billion US dollars, up 12.9% compared with last year, and a large part of this amount comes from overseas Chinese businessmen. |
