Chinese Government Trade and Economic Delegation Visited Egypt

Fu Ziying, Vice Minister of Commerce of China, head of the Chinese government trade and economic delegation, arrived in Cairo, capital of Egypt, on April 18, local time.

Vice Minister Fu held talks with Samir El-Sayiad, Minister of Trade and Industry of Egypt, on April 19, and stated that since the establishment of China-Egypt diplomatic ties 55 years ago, the two sides enjoy politically mutual trust and economically mutual benefits. Remarkable achievements were made in bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Vice Minister Fu pointed out that his visit under the new situation of Egypt showed that the Chinese government attached great importance to the development of Sino-Egypt bilateral trade and economic cooperation. China would like to enhance and deepen Sino-Egypt bilateral trade and economic relations. Ministry of Commerce of China and Ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt, as organizers of China-Egypt trade and economic committee, will intensify inter-ministry cooperation, and enhance the promotion of bilateral trade and practical cooperation among enterprises of the two countries.

Minister Samir El-Sayiad expressed his warm welcome to the visit of the Chinese delegation and stated that Egypt also attached great importance to the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He said, currently, Egypt is entering into the track of sound development, positively eliminating investment barriers and striving to protect the rights and benefits of investors, and hoped that the Chinese government could encourage more enterprises to invest in Egypt and that bilateral trade could further develop, China could increase its imports from Egypt.

Vice Minister Fu made also a courtesy call on Vice Prime Minister of Egypt El-Gamal and gave him a brief introduction of this visit. Vice Prime Minister El-Gamal stated that given the rapid development of China, Egypt would learn China’s development experiences and open wider to China and other friendly countries. He also hoped that the two countries could enhance the staff training and investment.

On the same day, Vice Minister Fu attended the China-Egypt Entrepreneur Luncheon and stated in his speech that China and Egypt shared strong complementarities in economy; both are actively boosting industrialization and industrial restructuring, and vigorously expanding opening-up. Prospect of bilateral trade and economic cooperation is bright. Despite the negative impacts under the new situation, bearing for development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation remains, and foundation is solid. Both sides are confident in continuing to push forward the sound and steady development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and would like to take joint efforts to provide better environment and services for enterprises of the two countries. He hoped that Chinese and Egyptian enterprises should lose no confidence, hold on to mutual benefit and expand the practical cooperation. Additionally, Vice Minister Fu proposed that enterprises and financial institutions could enhance trade, expand investment and cooperation, and improve the financial services.

Vice Minister Fu and Assistant Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Egypt exchanged views on enhancing the development of human resources, development aid, construction of Suez trade and economic cooperation zone, and investment on April 20. The two sides signed the intergovernmental agreement on China’s free assistant worth of 60 million yuan to Egypt and exchanged letters on relevant projects.

During the visit to Egypt, Vice Minister Fu met with the representatives of Chinese-funded organizations in Egypt.
