Mme. Wu Yi Attends the “Round Table Conference on Sino-Russia Trade and Investment Cooperation”

On June 10, China’s Vice Premier Wu Yi and her Russian counterpart Alexander Zhukov jointly attended the “Round Table Conference on Sino-Russia Trade and Investment Cooperation” and delivered speeches respectively in St. Petersburg, Moscow. Wu Yi stressed that China and Russia should seize every opportunity to realize mutual benefit and common development.

Wu Yi said that the round table conference, which was the only bilateral activity held under the framework of the ongoing St. Petersburg International Economic Forum would become a wonderful platform for enterprise from both China and Russia to strengthen mutual understanding and deepen reciprocal cooperation.

Over recent years, Sino-Russia trade and economic cooperation has seen a prosperous development. In 2006, Sino-Russia bilateral trade reached 33.4 bn USD. Wu Yi hoped that China and Russia should seize opportunities of bilateral cooperation in economy and trade; adhere to the principle of mutual benefit, and continuously deepen reciprocal cooperation in resources, trade of machinery and electronic products, deep-processing of timber, financial service, infrastructure construction, information technology, civil aviation manufacturing, trade on agricultural produce, etc, and achieve common development.

Alexander Zhukov said that the Sino-Russia bilateral trade has seen a rapid growth, and great progress has also been achieved in investment cooperation, which makes it possible for Sino-Russia trade to realize the set goal of 60 bn USD by the year 2010.

This round table conference was very fruitful. Both countries have discussed the current situation and foreground of the Sino-Russia cooperation in trade and investment, and have put forward some concrete suggestions on deepening bilateral trade cooperation.

Alexander Zhukov further stated that governments of both countries should support and encourage enterprises to seek opportunities for cooperation and further optimize trade structure, as well as strengthen cooperation in investment, resources, agriculture, forestry, food, finance, aviation manufacturing, ect.

Representatives of 200 enterprises from both China and Russia attended the conference, and had in-depth discussions on trade and economic cooperation in various fields.
  
After the conference, Wu Yi and Alexander Zhukov jointly attended the signing ceremony of 19 cooperation documents in the field of machinery and equipment, automobile, agriculture, resources, project contractor, high-technology and so on, which was valued at 2 bn USD.
