EU's REACH goes into effect; MOFCOM organizes enterprises to react vigorously

EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) went into effect as from Jun 1, 2007. With the aim of helping Chinese chemical enterprises as well as its up and down stream enterprises to react positively, REACH training course, which was sponsored by WTO affairs department of MOFCOM and Guangdong Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and undertaken by China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters and China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, held in Guangzhou on May 31. 250 representatives from Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian and Hainan provinces took part in the course with enthusiasm.

Heads of sponsor units delivered speeches on the opening ceremony and expected the enterprises to properly treat the influences the REACH brought into chemical trade between China and EU. Furthermore the enterprises were expected to attach great importance to internal characteristic of chemicals in production and exportation, and its effect to environment and human health, which in turn better conducting risk evaluation and management, promoting upgrade and replacement of product, and improving added value of exports.

Head of WTO affairs department expressed that MOFCOM vigorously organized reaction to REACH from various aspects starting from 2003, and this training course was the 6th one. Henceforth, relevant enterprises will be organized to follow the REACH implementation, and service mechanism will be set up to provide help promptly for the enterprises.

Representatives from all industries and enterprises responded intensively to the reaction of REACH and said that they would prepare vigorously, strengthen cooperation, jointly confront to it, lower to a minimum lose, and seize the opportunity, quicken the structure adjustment, improve industrial international competitiveness, and promote the harmonious development of China’s economic society.
