China and Chile Hold First Round of Talks on FTA Service Trade and Investment
The first round talks on China-Chile FTA service trade and investment, and the first meeting of free trade committee were held in Beijing on Jan 15-17, 2007.

This is the first round talks held since Chairman of the NPC Wu Bangguo and Chile's President Bachelet declared to formally start up talks on China-Chile FTA service trade and investment in Sep 2006. During the talks, the two parties exchanged views on basic principle and mechanism of talks through working outline. Besides, they exchanged information on fields in service trade departments including banking, labors sending overseas, education, building, tourism, water transportation, health, telecommunication, Chinese medicine and energy resource, and on current development and laws and regulations in investment.

The first meeting of free trade committee reviewed implementation of tariff reduction. The two parties exchanged views on such issues as issuing certificate of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical trade barrier, and reached consensus on enhancing cooperation in labor service and environment protection. They satisfied with implementation of FTA agreements in the first three months and expected to further strengthen cooperation and ensure smoothly implementation of the agreement.

China-Chile FTA agreements was signed on Nov 18, 2005 which mainly including trade in goods and cooperation. It has been put in force staring from Oct 1, 2006.
